“Success is dependent on effort.”
- Sophocles, Greek dramatist
This is an amazing quote by the exquisite philosophers the Sophocles. Effort is displayed in any situation and determines the outcome. Many people display effort and succeed while many others do not and end up failing therefore you must display effort no matter what the situation might be because if you do not display any effort at all you will not even accomplish anything. Sometimes it’s hard to display effort in a certain situation that is unpleasant, but if you do then the outcome will generally be positive and you will succeed in either accomplishing something or assisting someone who wants to accomplish something. Success is only marked by effort and failure is marked by the lack of effort/ not taking action for the situation.

How to Take on College Studying: Part 2

How to take on College Studying
Part 2

Choose Where to Study

Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.

·        The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space --- usually your dorm room, your dorm room or library.

·        For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.

·        When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.

Improve Your Study Habits

Here are simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:

·        Have a routine for where and when you study:

·        Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.

·        Do things that are harder and require more intense thought at most productive time of the day.

·        Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.

·        Get to know students whom respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.

·        Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

No one left behind

Summary:
Jenna Huff a cross country runner was competing in a race and was right beside Deb Guthmann who was in front of her by little distance, but then Deb Guthmann assumed a kneeling position and groaned in pain. Jenna Huff was perplexed at first, but then told Deb "You are going to win this race,' and proceeded to carry Deb Guthmann who with the support of Jenna slowly jogged to the finish line. Deb Guthmann arrived at the finish line in 21st place and Jenna arrived in 22nd place. Jenna was in danger of being disqualified, but was not because disqualification only applies when you asisst one of your teamates.
Reflection:
This was an amazing act of kindness that not many athletes would commit. Many athletes would take advantage of the situation and proceed to the finish line. Jenna who was not even associated with Deb assisted her while she was injured and led her to the finish line and even let her take 21st place while she was 22nd. Jenna's self-less actions have inspired many athletes and as a cross-country runner myself I admire Jenna and her act of kindness.

How to Take on College Studying: Part 1

Develop Good Study Habits

In college, you’ll need to build on the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more rigorous than those you are used to.

You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle it. Think of a college as a full time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study groups and doing homework.

Being organized and using your time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.

Decide when to study

Work out how many hours you need to study every day. Then make a schedule.

·        Figure out what blocks of time you have available throughout the day, in the evening and on weekends.

·        Consider what time of day you are most alert --- there are morning people and night owls --- and try to schedule your studying accordingly.

·        Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for marathon sessions.

Student Success Statement
“Choosing the Right is always the right thing to do.” Alex Linares

I agree with this statement from my teacher’s former student. Is it better to do what is right or what is wrong? Many of us rationalize our motives for the choices we make either lying to your friend or doing your homework in class, but we never realize that every moment we are committing these wrong actions we do not understand the severity of our actions, but we are not blind to our wrong doing we know when we commit wrong actions we just choose to do nothing about it. We must abide by the rules that let us prosper. If you encounter a rule that you believe improper you still have to abide by it or ask city officials to either disband or change the law, but we cannot choose to ignore it. When you “Choose the Wrong” you are smearing a stain on your morale and not doing the correct thing therefore your sense/ perspective of judgment is terrible, but if you “Choose the Right” your sense of judgment is morally good.

10 Time Management Tips for Students: Tips 5-10

10 Time Management Tips for Students
Tips 5-10

Tip 5. Review Your Notes Every Day.

Reviewing helps you reinforce what you’ve learned, so you need less time to study before a test. You’ll also be ready if you get called on in class or have to take a pop quiz.

Tip 6. Get a Good Night’s Sleep.

Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.

Tip 7. Communicate Your Schedule to Others.

If phone calls or text messages are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you are only available at certain times of the day and not to expect a response at other times.

Tip 8.  Become a Taskmaster.

Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.

Tip 9. Don’t Waste Time Agonizing.

Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress.

Tip 10. Determine Your Priorities.

You can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.

This is an amazing quote that I agree. I believe thatn an individual does require company, but conpany that is good not the oppposite of it. It  is indeed better to be alone then to participate in wrong actions that both you and your so called friends will not benefit from. many youths today are pressured and persuaded into changing their appearance, attitude, and so on. Youths percieve the world differently therefore would want to percive similarly tothe one they admire. If they want to be "cool" and have exhilerting friendships and if they acquire that by participating in wrong actions and belive to be persuaded then they are wrong they allowed themselves to be indulged into the world of drugs, crime, etc. If you are not in contact with those who participate in wtrong actions than you are doing the right thing and then you could acquire acquaintances who are good and not miscreants.

Tips 1-4

Organizing Your Life

Managing your time properly is an important element of success --- especially if you’re a student. If you set priorities that fit your needs and lifestyle, you’ll have a better chance of achieving your goals. Here are some tips for taking control of your time and organizing your life.

Tip 1. Make a To-Do List Every Day.

Put things that are important at the top and do them first. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.

Tip 2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely.

When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done.

Tip 3. It’s Okay to Say No.

If your friend asks you to go to a movie on Thursday night and you have an exam the next morning, realize that it’s okay to say no. Keep your short- and long-term properties in mind.

Tip 4. Find the Right Time.

You’ll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your cerebral area corresponds to math in an efficient manner in the afternoon, don’t wait to do it until late at night.

ANON
This is an amazing quote by this anonymous author. Improvement is something that we all strive and aspire to achieve, but do not realize that imprvement consists of improving ourselves. We try to improve many aspects of our daily lives such as arriving to school earlier, managing your weight, reaching your push up goal and so on. Even though we want to improve ourselves sometimes we require assistence, but others take advantage of this and do not improve because they did not try at all. To improve you need to take action because improvement does not manifest itself. I try to improve everyday because I belive that no one can perfect something they will always need to improve even on the most miniscule details. I try to improve on my push ups and when I started I could only perform 5, but through effort now I can perform 32 push ups, but am I excellent at push ups? No I am not because there is always room for improvement and improvement most definetly begins with I.

Just like a magnetic compass give directions, even true north, your personal compass, your heart, will point you in the true north, the exact directions and paths you need to trod.

4) Soul: Study scriptures and other sacred literature daily. In other words, feed your spirit because your spirit needs spiritual food just like your physical body needs temporal food to survive. Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self “sharp” so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life- body, mind, heart, and soul.

1)    Body: eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, and tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

2)    Mind: Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self- talk.”

"Alone we could do so little; together we can do so much."
Helen Keller
This is an amazing quote published by an amazing person. Alone we are all just one person no matter how we percieve this universe. Alone we can accomplish things, but together we can accomplish more than a miniscule amount. Cooperation is essential for us we could have never built the Titanic with just one person working on the project. Cooperation is what many of us like to be involved in, though some do not like to cooperate. Those who do not cooperate are the least likely to succeed because they do not know how to Synergize and accept others differences. Those who do know how to Synergize accept others differences and accept their contribution to the project they are working on unlike those who are not open to others and prefer to work in solitude. Even though working in groups can lead to conflicts with others ideas it is still more productive than working alone and some people just have to accept that.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens: Habit 6

7 Habits of Highly Successful Students
Habit 6

Habit 6: Synergize

Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn’t have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value difference and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win- Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form v formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn’t just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: Learn to celebrate differences.

A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums. Or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band members brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens: Habit 5

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 5

5. Seek First to Understand, and then to be Understood

Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood. This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.

Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are---a unique, one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more than you may want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we pronounce words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent).

Most people are eager to talk and had rather talk then listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than when we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.  Listen, really listen, for understanding.

Seek first to understand then to be understood--- LISTEN.

"So often, in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the "in-group," we lose sight of things that are far more important."
Sean Covey
This is an amazing quote by Mr. Covey that I 100% agree with. Many youths want to be popular and want to be noticed as well as admired by others. One example is a kid wanting to become popular and to obtain popularity buys new shoes that are expensive not aware of his family's economical state. I was talking to one of my friends that other day and he told me that he was considering acquiring a piercing, but I convinced him to question his motives, he only wanted to get one to be noticed and be "cool" which is absurd. Many youths today appear to have no limit when their motives pretain to popularity and that frightens me. many youths will go to extremes to be noticed and gain popularity, but are they achieving popularity in a beneficial way or are they just throwing the beneficial and good factors of their life away? That's a question that they will have to answer themselves.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens: Habit 4

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Habit 4

4. Think Win-Win

Teens can learn to foster the belief that is possible to create an atmosphere of Win- Win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them. Win- Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice and tough all at once. I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You care about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win- Win is abundant. It is the belief that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me. It’s both us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of pie. There’s more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Win- win always creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of thinking Win- Win is the good feelings it brings on. The true test of whether or not you are thinking Win- Win or one of the alternatives is how you feel. Win- Lose and Lose- Win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings.

Win- Win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts. It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win- Win or no deal.

"You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible."
Ezra Taft Benson
I immensly agree with this magnificent quote. It is indeed impossible to even feel the slightest bit rewarded when you commit and action that is wrong. When you do something wrong you will not feel rewarded or benefited, instead you will feel guilt and dissapointment. Why do something inproper? Do people do it thinking that they can benefit from it. Those who commit inproper actions know that they are doing something wrong, but choose to proceed and do it anyway and believe that they are not under any juristiction, but they are the law is their juristiction and deep down they know that they are doing something wrong and only feel guilt and dissapointment settling down upon the morality and they will never feel rewarded because it is impossible.

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Habit three is about Will and Will Not power. This habit helps Teens prioritize and manage their time so that they can focus on and complete the most important goals in their lives. Putting first things first means to dissipate fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s living life according to what matters most. Prioritizing (putting first things first) deals with things that are:

Important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrant of time management.

Quadrant 1: Things that are Important and Urgent.

Quadrant 2: Things that are Important but not Urgent.

Quadrant 3: Things that are Not Important but are Urgent.

Quadrant 4: Things that are not Important and Not Urgent.

1.     Important & Urgent
2.     Important but Not Urgent
3.     Not Important but are Urgent.
4.     Not important and not urgent.

Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play. The results for living Quadrant 2 are:

1.     Control of your life.

2.     Balance

3.     High Performance

So, in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most important things first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

Og Mandino
This is an amazing quote issued by Og Mandino. A person who's habits are proper are ensured success unlike those who's habits are distasteful (bad). Those who's habits are proper pave their road to success because their internal structure is incorruptable by neferious thoughts. Those whose habits are distasteful are metaphorically the keys to the gates of suffering because they are cowards and easily corruptable. We can either severe or strenghten our ties to the road of success and those who severe it are the ones that will not succeed, but those who strenghten their ties to the road of success will succeed and will not stray from the road of success they literally become "the slaves of proper habits."

Perception is a key element in obtaining what you desire, if you visualize/percieve yourself failing then you will fail, but if you percieve/visualize yourself obtaining what you want then you will obtain it and much more if you apply yourself.
