Student Success Statement
“Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.”
Liane Cordes

This is an amazing statement by Liane Cordes. Those who exert continuous effort are more likely to succeed then those who do not. Those who are not the most adequate at something (whatever it may be,) will always accomplish their goals because they exhibit a vast amount of effort and determination and with given time they will accomplish. To be accomplished correctly every task must be done with a sense of indulgence regardless of the situation you must always express continuous effort in order to “unlock your potential,” and complete every task in an extraordinary manner.

'Tis the Set of the Sail: Ella Wheeler

‘Tis the Set of the Sail
Ella Wheeler Wilcox 1916

But to every mind there openeth,

A way, and a way, and away.

A high soul climbs the highway,

And the low soul gropes the low,

And in between on the misty flats,

The rest drift to and fro.

But to every man there openeth,

A high way and low,

And every mid decideth,

The way his soul shall go.

One ship sails East,

And another West,

By the self-same winds that blow,

‘Tis the set of the sails

And no the gales,

That tells the way we go.

Like the winds of the sea

Are the waves of time,

As we journey along through life,

‘Tis the set of the soul,

That determines the goal,

And not the calm or the strife.

“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
Thomas Carlyle

This is an amazing quote by Mr. Carlyle. A man without a goal cannot experience either the consequences or benefits of his/ her actions. A man without a goal does not establish any and wanders aimlessly and has goals set upon him by others and does not realize anything. Without a goal you do not have any stability and do not know where to navigate in life because they do not expect anything from themselves and rarely do anything to benefit from. The rudder is an important of a ship then without it the ship cannot propel itself properly and will be maneuvered by the waves and the wind later to end up in a random destination. Those who let themselves be maneuvered by others like the ship will end up in a random situation which is mostly an unpleasant one. A man without a goal is deprived of purpose and will not accomplish anything that will benefit him, but will compensate others by fulfilling their desires either good or bad.

The Power of Study Groups: Part 2

The Power of Study Groups
htttp://www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/high-school/50432.html

Part 2

The benefits of Study Groups

Groups study offers other advantages in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of class material. These include the opportunity to: Reinforce note-taking. If your AP Biology notes are unclear, you can ask a member of your study group to help you fill in the gaps. Each person brings in different strengths, such as organizational skills, the ability to stick to a task or capacity for memorization.

Cover more ground. Group members may be able to solve a calculus problem together that none would have solved alone.

Benefit from a support system. Members often have common goals, such as good grades. Each person’s work affects the other members, which results in making members supportive of one another.

Socialize. It’s more fun to study with others; the give-and-take makes it more interesting. And because it’s more fun, you spend more time studying!

“In life as in football, you won’t go far, unless you know where the goalposts are.”
Arnold Glasgow

Mr. Glasgow’s quote is an amazing quote. No one can do anything unless they have a certain ambition or goal. Without goals or ambitions accomplishments would not have a foundation. Therefore, we would live in a disoriented and leaden world with no direction or purpose. Goals allow us to achieve and classify our aspirations and define our necessities. Imagine goals as a translator and our achievements as the language that is being translated. Goals motivate us and without any we would be lost and have no sense of urgency and purpose.

How to Take on College Studying: Part 2

How to take on College Studying
Part 2

Choose Where to Study

Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.

·        The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space --- usually your dorm room, your dorm room or library.

·        For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.

·        When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.

Improve Your Study Habits

Here are simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:

·        Have a routine for where and when you study:

·        Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.

·        Do things that are harder and require more intense thought at most productive time of the day.

·        Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.

·        Get to know students whom respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.

·        Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

10 Time Management Tips for Students: Tips 1-4

10 Time Management Tips for Students
http://www.collegeboard.com/students/plan/college-success/116.html
Tips 1-4

Organizing Your Life

Managing your time properly is an important element of success --- especially if you’re a student. If you set priorities that fit your needs and lifestyle, you’ll have a better chance of achieving your goals. Here are some tips for taking control of your time and organizing your life.

Tip 1. Make a To-Do List Every Day.

Put things that are important at the top and do them first. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.

Tip 2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely.

When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done.

Tip 3. It’s Okay to Say No.

If your friend asks you to go to a movie on Thursday night and you have an exam the next morning, realize that it’s okay to say no. Keep your short- and long-term properties in mind.

Tip 4. Find the Right Time.

You’ll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your cerebral area corresponds to math in an efficient manner in the afternoon, don’t wait to do it until late at night.

Student Success Statement
"Improvement begins with I."
ANON
This is an amazing quote by this anonymous author. Improvement is something that we all strive and aspire to achieve, but do not realize that imprvement consists of improving ourselves. We try to improve many aspects of our daily lives such as arriving to school earlier, managing your weight, reaching your push up goal and so on. Even though we want to improve ourselves sometimes we require assistence, but others take advantage of this and do not improve because they did not try at all. To improve you need to take action because improvement does not manifest itself. I try to improve everyday because I belive that no one can perfect something they will always need to improve even on the most miniscule details. I try to improve on my push ups and when I started I could only perform 5, but through effort now I can perform 32 push ups, but am I excellent at push ups? No I am not because there is always room for improvement and improvement most definetly begins with I.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens: Habit 2

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 2

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind

If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.

“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind; know where you are going.

One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school-that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity---that you earned it with perfect honesty.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens By Sean Covey

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
by Sean Covey

For teens, life is not a playground, it’s a jungle. And, being the parent of a teenager isn’t any walk in the park, either. In his book, The 7 habits of Highly Effective Teens, author Sean Covey attempts to provide ‘a compass to help teens and their parents navigate the problems they encounter daily.”

How will they deal with peer pressure? Motivation? Success or lack thereof? Life of a is full of tough issues and life-changing decisions. As a parent you are responsible to help them learn the principle and ethics that will help to reach their goals and live successful life.

While it’s all well and good to tell kids to live their lives, “teens watch what you do more than listen to what you say,” Covey says. So practice what you preach. Your example can be very influential.

Covey himself has done well by following a parent’s example. His dad wrote the book The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, which sold over 15 million copies. Sean’s a chip off the old block, and no slacker. His own book has rung in more than respectable 2 million copies sold. Here are his seven habits, and some ideas for helping your teen understand and apply them:
