This is an amazing statement by Phil Jackson. If you
prioritize your current objective than it will be much easier to indulge
yourself into the objective than if you begin to think about the possible
consequences which will cloud your thinking. For example, suppose a kid is
preparing himself for a soccer game, but is distracted when being told the
routine in which the game would be played because he is thinking about whether
they would win or lose the game. When he begins to play he does not remember
the routines and causes his team to lose the game. If the student would have
prioritized his current objective (the soccer game) then he would have not been
preoccupied with the game’s outcome and would have played more efficiently. If
you devote yourself to your current objective while slightly disregarding the aftermath
then you will succeed because you will not devote yourself into formulating
possible aftermaths which will lead to failure.
