Tranquil Under Pressure: 6 of 10

Tranquil Under Pressure
6 of 10

Very few students enjoy taking an exam. Yet functioning well under pressure is crucial to your future success. Attempt to think of the pressure of testing as you practice for the career environment’s chaotic situations. You could someday encounter constricting deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel, handling dangerous chemicals, etc.

The most adequate manner to curtail under pressure and to eliminate this burden is to prepare. Applying the motto “Be Prepared” is an adequate motto that provides motivation. Prepare for that exam, and you will not have to concern yourself about your score. In fact, it will increase your chances for success, to reveal the amount of effort that you have exerted in order to prepare for the exam. You will be rewarded for the effort that you have thrust into your studies. Preparation removes fear. When you are prepared for a situation it will not be as intimidating when it occurs. Preparation helps you achieve tranquility when under pressure. Preparation generates energy and enthusiasm; therefore prepare and your calmness when under pressure is sure to abound.

Exam Day: Survival: Test- Taking: Part 3

Exam Day: Survival Tips
Test – Taking
Part 3

Identify key words.

This allows you to focus on the main idea presented by a challenging question.

Rephrase difficult questions.

To comprehend questions that are difficult much more effectively, rephrase them into a format that you find comfortable. Be careful not to completely alter the meaning.

Organize your thoughts before you answer.

Allow yourself time to organize your responses to short- answer and essay questions. This will reduce the time needed to revise your responses.

Write neatly.

Be sure that all of your answers can be read by whoever is grading your test (transcribe them neatly.)

Use all the time you’re alloted.

If you finish early do not consider yourself completely finished. Use the extra time to proofread and review your answers.

Part 2

During the Test

Read the Directions.

It’s important that you follow the instructions exactly. For example, some questions contain more than one correct answer.

Answer the questions that are of least concern first.

Doing this provides a way for you to begin to remember important aspects of the material that you are currently evaluating. You may also encounter information that can aid you in answering other questions.

Answer every question.

Unless there is a penalty for incorrect answers, attempt to answer every question, you may be able to receive partial credit for those you begin but don’t complete correctly.

Ask Questions.

If you cannot properly comprehend something, ask your teacher for assistance. If that’s not possible, explain your answer in the margin.

Selecting Your Courses: Part 5

Selecting Your Courses
Part 5

The Arts

Research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardized tests. The arts help you recognize patterns, discern differences and similarities, and exercise your mind in unique ways, often outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Many colleges require or recommend one or two semesters in the arts. Good choices include studio art, dance, music and drama. Many students have talents and extraordinary abilities in the arts. Students should look within their own repertoire of talents and identify their artistic abilities and take college classes to develop their talents.

Advanced Placement Program (AP)

To be sure you are ready to take on college-level work, enroll in the most challenging courses you can in high school, such as honors or AP courses. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3.0 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success and college graduation rates than students who don’t take AP classes.

Work hard in your righteous pursuits, and you will recap the benefits of self-fulfillment and job satisfaction. Don’t take shortcuts just to “get by,” instead, take challenging and difficult roads (courses) and reach higher mountain peaks of achievement.

Study for Multiple Exams: Part 1

Study for Multiple Exams
Part 1

How I study for multiple exams, deal with multiple projects: Really it is my time management that I explained above. If I see I have multiple things due or study for all at the same time I spread out my time beforehand. For example, if I have a test for Monday, and 2 tests for Tuesday then I will study for my Monday test Thursday and part of Friday. Start Studying for my next test on the second half of Friday and part of Saturday, then my second Tuesday test on Saturday as well as part of Sunday. Then Sunday night I can review for my Monday test because I already studied for it. When the test is over I can begin reviewing for the other tests. My overall study method: I try to break it up over several days or at least two. I get bogged down if I try to pull an all-nighter. How I’ve overcome an initial bad grade: If I receive a low grade I probably knew it was coming because I didn’t prepare properly or I didn’t use the right study habit for the class. I usually try to go over what I did wrong and sometimes discuss with the teacher what I can do differently on the next exam or what they suggest I do for studying for the next exam.
