Initiative

Initiative can be
compared to creativity, inventiveness, originality, ingenuity, and imagination.
Every time you respond to a question asked in class, every time you select your
own research project, every time you create an interpretation of a piece of
literature, you yield initiative. And future employers value responsive professionals
who create new ideas and chart their own course through projects, in other
words employers who are self-reliant. Self-reliant individuals are
self-igniters who do not procrastinate when issued a task. They are well aware
of what needs to be completed and prioritize the task. They are responsive and
do not need to be reminded about their assignment. Succeeding in high school, a
university, and in the career environment requires initiative.
