Initiative: 5 of 10

Initiative
5 of 10

Initiative can be compared to creativity, inventiveness, originality, ingenuity, and imagination. Every time you respond to a question asked in class, every time you select your own research project, every time you create an interpretation of a piece of literature, you yield initiative. And future employers value responsive professionals who create new ideas and chart their own course through projects, in other words employers who are self-reliant. Self-reliant individuals are self-igniters who do not procrastinate when issued a task. They are well aware of what needs to be completed and prioritize the task. They are responsive and do not need to be reminded about their assignment. Succeeding in high school, a university, and in the career environment requires initiative.

Student Success Statement
“Failure is only postponed success as long as courage coaches ambition. The habit of persistence is the habit of victory.”
Herbert Kaufman

This is an amazing statement by Herbert Kaufman. Persistence is an endearing quality that is of great importance when trying to achieve an ambition. Courage, diligence, initiative, and persistence are all important when trying to achieve an ambition, but fail. What is failure? Failure can be defined many ways. In our case, failure is the ill attempt in completing an ambition. If you do not complete something then should you overlook the ambition and move along? NO, failure allows us to better ourselves and evaluate the aspect(s) that made you unable to complete your ambition the first time. With all of the qualities listed above will serve as a figurative rehabilitation center where courage would inspire you to persist in the completion of the action and where diligence and initiative along with your ambition will generate motivation and allows for victory.

Reading 5 Tips for Success: Tips 3-4

Reading
5 Tips for Success Tips 3-4

Tip 3: Research

Literary critics have written vast numbers of analytical and critical pieces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research and see what knowledge sources have to say about it. In addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll also be demonstrating initiative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.

Tip 4: Use a Dictionary

Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes it is difficult. Rather than simply skipping over the words you don’t know, take the time to research and find the definition. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.
