Summary

Tony Farmer a top recruited basketball star was sentenced 3 years in prison upon several third and second degree felonies. Tony Farmer collapsed the floor after his sentence and looked distraught. Tony Farmer is accused of the attempted kidnapping of his girlfriend, stealing various items from her, and threatening her. His family was distraught when his sentence was announced.

Reflection

Why would this young man commit such things? I for one am very disappointed ant Tony farmer who could have had a successful future, but chose not to. As said by Brigham Young, “True Independence and Freedom Can Only Exist In Doing What Is Right.” This young man decided to do what is wrong and has “willingly” relinquished his freedom by committing improper and devious actions. I cannot stop thinking on how he could have avoided this disastrous situation.

Marion Jones burned the Track

Summary  

Olympic Track and Field star Marion Jones prestigiously won 5 medals (3 gold and 2 bronze) during the 2000 Sydney, Australia Olympics. Her reputation was abolished when she appeared outside of a federal court after being found guilty of using sport enhancing substances during the 2000 Olympics which led to her triumphant performance in Track and Field. Marion was sentenced to 6 months in prison and was stripped of her medals and her freedom.

Reflection

Marion Jones will now and always feel ashamed of her pathetic actions. Why did she use the enhancing supplements? I believe that she used the supplements because she felt inadequate something that is not uncommon in athletics. Marion jones disgraced the both herself and the athletics department. Some believe that Marion either was influenced to use the supplements or began to use the supplements because she felt pressured during or before the Olympics. Marion harbored her guilt over the course of all those years when she could have avoided all of these disastrous results. Marion Jones’s reputation and career is now disgraced which is what she harshly deserves.  

No bed, No room, Just a bathroom

Summary

Today I read an article which focused on a child who had been locked up in a restroom for six years and was only allowed to exit the bathroom when she commuted to school. The little girl has been “living” in the bathroom since she was three years old. Her grandparents, Brian G. hart, 50, and Rivae L. Hart, 49, were arrested on charges of kidnapping (a first degree felony punishable by up to ten years in prison) and third degree felony (child endangerment punishable by up to five years in prison.)The motives behind the imprisonment of the girl are unclear as stated by Dayton Sgt. Larry Tolphin. Sgt. Larry Tolphin also stated that, “The child’s conditions were deplorable.” The child was only given a cot and a blanket (no pillow) to sleep with.

Reflection

These are cruel and malevolent individuals who deserve to be in prison for what is left of their lives. Why would they do such a thing to an innocent child they are clearly soulless, they did not feed the child on a regular basis nor did they even treat her with an ounce of respect. The child who is now nine years old will be traumatized and it is the fault of her own grandparents who should be ashamed of themselves and not be allowed any freedom!

If you do something wrong then you will be shrouded by fear and guilt. If you do what is right on the other hand you will not be worried nor feel any guilt instead you will be serene and have no worries what so ever because you have not commited anything wtong therefore you will sustain your freedom. Those who "Choose The Wrong" are not free they are opressed by themselves they are not bestowed with freedom they are worried about the consequences for their choice, they fear their parent's disapproval, the authorities, society's judgment, and so on.

What I interpret from Mr. Smith's statement is that our duty is to influence others to believe in what is good as popular and what is bad as unpopular. We are all established freedom by society and by law and it is our duty to obey the law, but many don't because what is so popular now a days is rebel. Our society's foundation is dependent on citizens doing what is right and not doing the opposite. If we influence the public into doing what is right by moral standards of course than many will follow the ideal while very few might not. One example is the growing popularity in academic neglectance, many youths only neglect education because they believe that is it's popular than they should follow that ideal and not apply themselves in their education. Students who apply themselves and persevere are adequate and therefore not influenced by their enviroment and their peers alike.

 This is an amazing quote with simplicity and an inspiring message. Martin Luther King Jr. has always been a symbol for freedom and equality. Time is a concept, an illusion, our way of understanding sequences and events. When we do something that is morally correct or right it is the right time to make that decision, but when we do something wrong then that was a wrong time to perform that action. Time is our way of understanding sequences and events all through out history, but we can never percieve the future and if we do something right or wrong then that will be the right time or the wrong time to perform the action, "only time will tell."
