Cross Country!

Cross Country!

I have always enjoyed long distance running and have recently joined the Linda Marquez Cross Country team where I am excelling, always finishing either second (when we just run distance with no obstacle courses, but I am behind my twin) or third (when we climb stairs while running and when we traverse through obstacle courses.) I appreciate my teammates and their effort. In the sixth grade when I was 10 years old in our physical education class we ran the mile for the first time and I was astonished that I was the second one to complete it (behind my twin brother Hugo.) After that I enjoyed and began to run during P.E, but slowed down due to an illness until the 7th grade where I began to run long distance much more often. When I first entered the Linda Marquez Cross Country team I felt a sense of inexperience because I was not accustomed to a proper training environment since I was accustomed to running for miles at school and during vacation, but I did not consider the obstacle courses and the climbing of stairs, but I am now accustomed and am improving in these aspects and now I am improving on my running speed and endurance. Running long distances almost never proved to be an excruciating activity though it is hard at times it is particularly simple. My fascination in running long distances will never cease to expand.

Student Success Statement
“The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character.” Margaret Chase Smith

This is an amazing quote by Margaret Chase Smith. Today there are many individuals who succumb to the desires of others knowing that it is wrong, but are pressured into committing improper action. Suppose there is a group of kids who are going to go to their friend’s older brother’s house and drink alcohol, but the kid does not think that it is proper for them to be doing that and is then ridiculed by his “friends” because they believe that he is not “fun” anymore, but the kid decides to leave the group and not consume any alcohol. Ask yourself who is of better character, the kid who left the group or the kid who proposed the insidious activity? Most definitely the kid who did not succumb to his “friends” desires and was not provoked to accept his friend’s proposal even though the others all wanted to drink.

Student Successful Statement
"Goodness is the only investment that never fails."
- Henry David Thoreau
Yes this is an understandable quote by Mr. Thoreau. If you invest all of your time into doing what is right then you wil never fail in what you are striving for. When the person invests his/her time into some benefitting actions or "goodness" will always be compensated for his investment because there will always be something to do that is good. If someone invests their time in activities that require them to act or be delinquents then they will not be rewarded properly. If the investor did not apply themselves or muster much of their time into the activity then the person might feel that they are unsatisfied with their activity then they will restrain from it or elude participation from it, but those who apply themselves and do what is right will always benefit from it and will be satisfied and rewarded.
